We have definitely neglected our backyard (just like our blog) over the last few months. It was a first Saturday in a while that the weather was perfect and we didn't have anything planned, so we definitely took advantage of the situation. We have two orange trees and a banana tree that add to the yard work so it took most of the morning...I'm getting distracted...<br /><br />...The reason for this post was not to talk about our yard but to post about a moment that I know I'll forget if I dont write it down.<br /><br />So Benson has be on a wild streak for the last few weeks and is finally coming off it. The last few days he has been as sweet as little boys can be. Last night we let him stay up late with us because we were having so much fun together, he also was so sweet that I let him in our bed with us to go to sleep. When I asked Scott who he wanted to say the prayer- Benson piped up and said he wanted to<br /><br />Me: Benson, you wanna say the prayer?<br /><br />Benson: yah<br /><br />Me: okay, do you want me to help you? (I've always helped him)<br /><br />Benson: No....Dear Heavenly Father..<br /><br />he continued to say the entire prayer all by himself. I know this sounds like nothing special- many kids his age can say a pray but it was Benson's first time and when he spoke there was something so tender and sincere in his voice that it just melted my heart.<br /><br />What else does that have to do with the yard work?<br /><br />He has continued his sweet attitude through out today while we were working in the yard. He had his boots and rope with him the whole time. He helped sweep and pick up handfuls of leaves and put them into the bags. He even helped put all the old banana leaves into the back of the truck. I was proud of him.<br /><br />It was worth the last few weeks where there were more tears than laughter, more stares than smiles from strangers at the store and more time outs than diaper changes.Scott & Gini Berretthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17519856277567240272noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1320520280975360556.post-29977018463207216622012-01-06T17:22:00.000-08:002012-01-06T17:37:33.418-08:00Happy Kings Day<a href="https://encrypted-tbn3.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTLmXUUNM4BAW5nVKHqLm_ivwR2yKZdYzfpz4aS-QCecmO6I1JS"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 275px; height: 183px;" src="https://encrypted-tbn3.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTLmXUUNM4BAW5nVKHqLm_ivwR2yKZdYzfpz4aS-QCecmO6I1JS" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />Today is Kings Day in the big easy. It is 12 days after Christmas and the beginning of the Mardi Gras season. They take Mardi Gras pretty seriously down here. Most people start getting Kings Cake to begin the celebration and I thought I would join in on the festivities and get one for tonight.<br /><br />I went to a recommended bakery that does ONLY king cakes, it was around 330 and they only had MASSIVE ones shaped in LSU (they are serious about LSU down here too) and there was only 4 left..despite the massive price tag it came with, I was very excited to purchase my very first Kings Cake. In each Cake there is a little plastic baby and whoever gets the baby throws the next party. I dropped off part of the cake to two different friends since each of the letters took up an entire cookie sheet- we didnt need that much cake. It should be fun to see who gets the baby!<br /><br /><br /><br />And since it has been so long since we've posted anything on here- I'll give you a little piece of my Christmas present...how awesome did these pictures turn out!!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgM1tQo3UDMlVpQWYMdSFN6-aH4TCxEV4mVMHsnnixdQ-YUvqYWdGLvMNoSaX72z-rjGBqdcoSjNrt3V4-NWmaFetoNlZq93sZfQYrYuZ6faghKUOK1pgqRklAZRYEOyg7BL5hmu-TWoF0/s720/B%252526H23.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 720px; height: 478px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgM1tQo3UDMlVpQWYMdSFN6-aH4TCxEV4mVMHsnnixdQ-YUvqYWdGLvMNoSaX72z-rjGBqdcoSjNrt3V4-NWmaFetoNlZq93sZfQYrYuZ6faghKUOK1pgqRklAZRYEOyg7BL5hmu-TWoF0/s720/B%252526H23.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIsuF8WNQmgeEZWSzr-CkA-lfX0-4ZQyZJTRmHTem6r4NsZD5gUBjIrmIlgs-32AswTZ25SokwPsp8hA5UItek0KDWnOe5E5UHGuSOkyemhKphNjTupBqIW36MsI0lSzkBHRexPkpacQs/s512/B%252526H1.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 341px; height: 512px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIsuF8WNQmgeEZWSzr-CkA-lfX0-4ZQyZJTRmHTem6r4NsZD5gUBjIrmIlgs-32AswTZ25SokwPsp8hA5UItek0KDWnOe5E5UHGuSOkyemhKphNjTupBqIW36MsI0lSzkBHRexPkpacQs/s512/B%252526H1.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiXGVTKMH9VTAeB2aX9Cg55w9NGGusNytkvEsT2lSD74fOTJrtgZN_xmkFSxn0AvvVIJQ-XND8TDpIB_rmxwke5tZI5NsXlawt8LUqUGi-12l_YE7aOogLaSzhX7IgyYt7oZkXewr1GkY/s512/B%252526H13.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 341px; height: 512px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiXGVTKMH9VTAeB2aX9Cg55w9NGGusNytkvEsT2lSD74fOTJrtgZN_xmkFSxn0AvvVIJQ-XND8TDpIB_rmxwke5tZI5NsXlawt8LUqUGi-12l_YE7aOogLaSzhX7IgyYt7oZkXewr1GkY/s512/B%252526H13.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2L903jXaicKVaDu3OcyhJ8786Z0ELVfJogIiy3Rc37kBtbpboJqCVf7Kk2tq4ofUubCZpCWSxQhGiiLZHAeQe1H5Fcy6tRXNFlb7vttly29RtHgQHyEQki_x2FyFTg1fOjBf2Sz4JauQ/s720/B%252526H11.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 720px; height: 480px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2L903jXaicKVaDu3OcyhJ8786Z0ELVfJogIiy3Rc37kBtbpboJqCVf7Kk2tq4ofUubCZpCWSxQhGiiLZHAeQe1H5Fcy6tRXNFlb7vttly29RtHgQHyEQki_x2FyFTg1fOjBf2Sz4JauQ/s720/B%252526H11.JPG" alt="" border="0" /></a>Scott & Gini Berretthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17519856277567240272noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1320520280975360556.post-31964095488853219042011-07-07T10:21:00.000-07:002011-07-07T10:30:44.312-07:00Happy Birthday BensonYesterday Benson turned 2. I can't believe I have a 2 year old. I dont think he grasped the concept of his birthday quite yet. We kept things simple and got him some ballons and a banner to wake up to in the morning. We also had playgroup at our house- the kids played in the kiddy pool and we decorated cupcakes and then sang Happy Birthday to him. His favorite thing was the plastic fireman hat we got him which i'll post later.<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHBScM9s54KknOdW4MU463hkLVz31yW4ZnCgH-0aPhUjIswiZyaL7d-Z6-fRm3THB7T6M-xam6c17YPwWQ0pvaf_6gCW6ahZtGCh5YU4_Tjv-AlIdk91AqVS0rdhWCNJDJbhXf62CGV1k/s1600/IMG_0370.JPG"><img style="display:block; Other times it makes me feel like my heart is going to stop beating- like the time Benson tried to pick up Henry, or hit him with his toy or kicked him on accident. Happy Mothers day to everyone!!<br /><br /><br /><br />So I am totally stealing this from another blog that I read (Thanks Hinckleys! and sorry I didnt ask to use it before I posted this!) and I have been thinking of this story all day today.<br /><br /><div style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;" align="center"><span style="font-family: arial;">The Invisible Mother </span></div><br /><div style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;" align="center"><span style="font-family: arial;"></span></div><br /><div style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;" align="center"><span style="font-family: arial;">It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I'm on the phone and ask to be taken to the store. Inside I'm thinking, 'Can't you see I'm on the phone?'Obviously not; no one can see if I'm on the phone, or cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing on my head in the corner, because no one can see me at all. I'm invisible. The invisible Mom. </span></div><br /><div style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;" align="center"><span style="font-family: arial;">Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more! Can you fix this? Can you tie this? Can you open this??Some days I'm not a pair of hands; I'm not even a human being. I'm a clock to ask, 'What time is it?' I'm a satellite guide to answer, 'What number is the Disney Channel?' I'm a car to order, 'Right around 5:30, please.'</span></div><br /><div style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;" align="center"><span style="font-family: arial;">Some days I'm a crystal ball; 'Where's my other sock?, Where's my phone?, What's for dinner?'I was certain that these were the hands that once held books and the eyes that studied history, music and literature -but now, they had disappeared into the peanut butter, never to be seen again. She's going, she's going, she's gone!</span></div><br /><div style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;" align="center"><span style="font-family: arial;">One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of a friend from England . She had just gotten back from a fabulous trip, and she was going on and on about the hotel she stayed in. I was sitting there, looking around at the others all put together so well. It was hard not to compare and feel sorry for myself. I was feeling pretty pathetic, when she turned to me with a beautifully wrapped package, and said, 'I brought you this.' It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe.I wasn't exactly sure why she'd given it to me until I read her inscription: 'With admiration for the greatness of what you are building when no one sees.' </span></div><br /><div style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;" align="center"><span style="font-family: arial;"></span></div><br /><div style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;" align="center"><span style="font-family: arial;">In the days ahead I would read - no, devour - the book. And I would discover what would become for me, four life-changing truths, after which I could pattern my work: </span></div><br /><div style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;" align="left"><span style="font-family: arial;">1) No one can say who built the great cathedrals - we have no record of their names. </span></div><br /><div style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;" align="left"><span style="font-family: arial;">2) These builders gave their whole lives for a work they would never see finished. </span></div><br /><div style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;" align="left"><span style="font-family: arial;">3) They made great sacrifices and expected no credit. </span></div><br /><div style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;" align="left"><span style="font-family: arial;">4) The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything.</span></div><br /><div style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;" align="center"><span style="font-family: arial;">A story of legend in the book told of a rich man who came to visit the cathedral while it was being built, and he saw a workman carving a tiny bird on the inside of a beam. He was puzzled and asked the man, 'Why are you spending so much time carving that bird into a beam that will be covered by the roof, No one will ever see it And the workman replied, 'Because God sees.' </span></div><br /><div style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;" align="center"><span style="font-family: arial;"></span></div><br /><div style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;" align="center"><span style="font-family: arial;">I closed the book, feeling the missing piece fall into place. It was almost as if I heard God whispering to me, 'I see you. I see the sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does.</span></div><br /><div style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;" align="center"><span style="font-family: arial;">No act of kindness you've done, no sequin you've sewn on, no cupcake you've baked, no Cub Scout meeting, no last minute errand is too small for me to notice and smile over. You are building a great cathedral, but you can't see right now what it will become. </span></div><br /><div style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;" align="center"><span style="font-family: arial;">I keep the right perspective when I see myself as a great builder, one of the people who show up at a job that they will never see finished, to work on something that their name will never be on. The writer of the book went so far as to say that no cathedrals could ever be built in our lifetime because there are so few people willing to sacrifice to that degree. </span></div><br /><div style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;" align="center"><span style="font-family: arial;"></span></div><br /><div style="color: rgb(102, 51, 255); font-style: italic;" align="center"><span style="font-family: arial;">As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot be seen if we're doing it right. And one day, it is very possible that the world will marvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible mothers.</span></div>Scott & Gini Berretthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17519856277567240272noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1320520280975360556.post-74323714709261792392011-05-05T10:15:00.000-07:002011-07-07T10:15:52.514-07:00Family Time<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7hpUa9Vn3UZ37bG876mLCNji6z1A3BogMVRFH3ysxBJ4tULpJUt0RISF6TeYRYQ4k161vor2ibGC1oQj6Ty81VarVh7LwObauS7eau96uWJIozwOTXWjhGwNwIUn-uoKuSNRB-46jmRU/s1600/IMG_2122.JPG"><br /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN2jFJ1gQGmFFURCw63-LsAVc7geEZ1HqiD8sJHaI9y9WU0joOqreqzYZxHdtAU32t28NkqwoUDDQGj5iXnVjLxF2OVaKNslRN2eMXN70ih-7Elg8fUXykkLHvcSYDzq-UwT4WN0hkGPo/s1600/IMG_2121.JPG"><br /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3Hz7lNOePAcsvuSiY6U_B9-Mz9QnuOaR8A5K8M77G-G7jLph4jOLjXJyVh3pU_8fUyCpc3-YRObvnsdiC9kLmIzARvusVp4YP1iZ2HpICP96SkYmpg4F-sd_S_0UzZkzkwTVGeG4RSn4/s1600/IMG_2117.JPG"><br /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-Hb3AUT33TKxmnpmR_9RZWJViQbimlHMC7ug_lgCOe1I0KJMHusWPmvYUUN5n5AYkS5XQZL5j_JN6KW7hSCnXdHE1cofEJHDNpzSVCxGH-MBpqvQUlOCwwf6RwDzIkANHKhCybVrW2dg/s1600/IMG_2117.JPG"><br /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYdd317_T81vA713yZEV_A9-APpzjs6JviSorpezUJi2djpbFajh8A7_c9MZajF2MTn4jwT1HyYiwJiO5p-uXMEbvvwmqXgSpUno5uL05w_2jR1np1GZyWNj_vhPjW0jkXotVJ-xtklgs/s1600/IMG_2128.JPG"><br /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3Cu0z88kFCP0VeD6nuSrLE3mNgLGDstm1md80o0Aicl6y2JLhtbd-V51IncQeIdmFAf3tW-rQMPBntLrEoLVatSiQ0hb0lORCi4ulYRrKVoEWmJRIXaswM_nNTdgvL_7wsF979BrT4Wg/s1600/IMG_2121.JPG"><br /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpqI_bOkDLk9Ofl9tCSWJwBzv-VZ0m6Y7Ke5hVahA3X7a0OVPj_rBZiuddLcb59J-r8gb4ibYdBuR5cMXIyzGE2UlyxoPtc-cR1IE47cUAEB8M0JNNTPvZc46gKjps8gSiUAEE-9TzHOU/s1600/IMG_2101.JPG"><br /></a>Weve had quite a few vistors over the last two months, hence the lack of posts. He joined us April 9th at 10am. He weighed in at 8 pounds 10 ounces and 20.5 inches long.<br /><br />The morning he was born, I started having contractions when I woke up and started to get ready to go to the hospital. I told Scott to take his time and shower because they weren't super close and I felt like things wouldn't go very fast. An hour later I really regretted taking our time. We showed up at the hospital at 8am and I was very paranoid they would send me home because I wasn't dilated. she checked me and said I was at a 6- I then asked for an epidural asap- which didn't happen very asap if you ask me.<br /><br />I think (from what I remember) I didn't get it till after 9am which is a very long time when you are in labor and feeling labor pains. Poor Scott got the brunt of the labor pains...and his hand- I was holding it so tight, you'd think I'd of bruised it.<br /><br />As soon as I got the epidural they broke my water, had me push four times and little Henry arrived. It all happened very fast but everyone is doing well.<br /><br />Benson is interested in his brother sometimes but most of the time he goes about his business. Having two kids keeps me on my toes and there are DEFINITELY more diapers to change but I love these boys and am SOO glad not to pregnant anymore!<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikqGEmvHjM20SqCVvsBd8ouv90o6Uu3KWFcepPkMTC4Wz9K0sc1K4ys_ekGKgbTH501NGq5Qc3Yqv-7w9Ozg2IAprE9Wjq141cDaqXtGxKQ1hvJX07R1vtHPcSm3adDjy8IOvBxhVsKn0/s1600/IMG_2044.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikqGEmvHjM20SqCVvsBd8ouv90o6Uu3KWFcepPkMTC4Wz9K0sc1K4ys_ekGKgbTH501NGq5Qc3Yqv-7w9Ozg2IAprE9Wjq141cDaqXtGxKQ1hvJX07R1vtHPcSm3adDjy8IOvBxhVsKn0/s400/IMG_2044.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5597464234347183490" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhg4UlimzRMZ_dzY5fe6jFDO8oCZ3FlH4BZPc65-EinT1T0MEVGW5xsYqOGKxAH3EXtiEbaNVwSBlBb-1wiJ5XL1oYqaYgHV0BDKs7rX3WKDklNTaAJvcFgz2Ey8lPHFCOU5zZozHm3dYs/s1600/IMG_2066.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhg4UlimzRMZ_dzY5fe6jFDO8oCZ3FlH4BZPc65-EinT1T0MEVGW5xsYqOGKxAH3EXtiEbaNVwSBlBb-1wiJ5XL1oYqaYgHV0BDKs7rX3WKDklNTaAJvcFgz2Ey8lPHFCOU5zZozHm3dYs/s400/IMG_2066.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5597464240652066050" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW2euHdBwiilUDLkrNqTaRjILCTeBNitBsa2MKR83pI84AR7xtSh-WfbuTHYblpr1z7nps6B5PJKD2TcopKSgGjn29cx3IBCEdh-Hji1hwGwBP3HQnyqfVGoVx5qVRR8YJQTFYo7PWACo/s1600/IMG_2052.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 389px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhW2euHdBwiilUDLkrNqTaRjILCTeBNitBsa2MKR83pI84AR7xtSh-WfbuTHYblpr1z7nps6B5PJKD2TcopKSgGjn29cx3IBCEdh-Hji1hwGwBP3HQnyqfVGoVx5qVRR8YJQTFYo7PWACo/s400/IMG_2052.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5597493821182637874" border="0" /></a>Scott & Gini Berretthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17519856277567240272noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1320520280975360556.post-84672705273674009552011-04-08T16:12:00.000-07:002011-04-08T16:16:04.980-07:00Spring to SummerI feel like we skipped spring all together this year. I don't know why but I hit what I like to call a "Blah" phase...nothing sounds good to cook or eat and I would rather have cold cereal or oatmeal than make dinner. I have been trying to get out of this rut for some time and may have succeeded tonight. Chicken is a staple in our home and so I was glad to find a recipe that was new and had chicken as an ingredient. You should try this recipe I found on <a href="http://www.myrecipes.com/ingredients/chicken-recipes/5-ingredient-chicken-recipes-10000001883792/page10.html">myrecipes.com</a><br /><span style="font-size:100%;"><br /></span><h1 style="font-style: italic;" id="recipeTitle"><span style="font-size:100%;">Grilled Chicken and Pineapple Sandwiches</span></h1><a href="http://img4.myrecipes.com/i/recipes/oh/ckfff/chicken-pineapple-oh-1895951-x.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 360px; height: 360px;" src="http://img4.myrecipes.com/i/recipes/oh/ckfff/chicken-pineapple-oh-1895951-x.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div class="rcpdetail" id="ingredients"> <h2 style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-size:100%;">Ingredients</span></h2> <ul><li><span style="font-size:100%;"> 4 (6-ounce) skinless, boneless chicken breast halves</span></li><li><span style="font-size:100%;"> 1/2 teaspoon salt</span></li><li><span style="font-size:100%;"> 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper</span></li><li><span style="font-size:100%;"> Cooking spray</span></li><li><span style="font-size:100%;"> 1/4 cup fresh lime juice (about 2 limes)</span></li><li><span style="font-size:100%;"> 4 (1/2-inch-thick) slices fresh pineapple</span></li><li><span style="font-size:100%;"> 4 (1.5-ounce) whole wheat hamburger buns, toasted <span style="font-style: italic; color: rgb(204, 102, 0);">(</span><span style="color: rgb(204, 102, 0);"><span style="font-style: italic;">I used hawaiin sweet rolls)</span></span><br /></span></li><li><span style="font-size:100%;"> Light mayonnaise (optional)</span></li><li><span style="font-size:100%;"> 4 large basil leaves</span></li></ul> </div> <div class="rcpdetail" id="preparation"> <h2 style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-size:100%;">Preparation</span></h2> <p><span style="font-size:100%;">1. Starting in October we started hearing rumors that we'd be moving before the holidays, and then it was we'd move by the end of last year and then it was by the end of February and then it was the end of April or sometime in May and then it was "You're moving in March to St. Louis" and then three days later it was "No, you aren't moving yet" and then two weeks later it was "You're moving to New Orleans and we need you there in a week".<br /><br />So for the last few months we have been on edge waiting to hear where we will move and when. This has caused some struggles for us and especially me, because I have had no clue where I would deliver this baby until I was 36 weeks pregnant.<br /><br />Now we know, and we have moved and Scott has started him job. I finally unpacked the last box this last week and we have (I think) Everything ready for this baby. I found a doctor, a hospital, We've started going to our new ward and I've even had a chance to meet our new neighbors.<br /><br />We are really enjoying the warm weather, the fresh oranges from the orange trees from our backyard, and i LOVE, LOVE, LOVE seeing green grass.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx1KVe9qSCAG6e13mV-WI3aKmB9dmbEBv65NFmF4xa7P5e05zWyiq63FccyleiEpdmtp-wBA21H_Q77DCKfohs9gk9Dk6un7LCG2kJ9bcj91t3XrSF72_u02i1CqiggvL13JdZ_zIta8A/s1600/IMG_1979.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgx1KVe9qSCAG6e13mV-WI3aKmB9dmbEBv65NFmF4xa7P5e05zWyiq63FccyleiEpdmtp-wBA21H_Q77DCKfohs9gk9Dk6un7LCG2kJ9bcj91t3XrSF72_u02i1CqiggvL13JdZ_zIta8A/s400/IMG_1979.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5590433901775960146" border="0" /></a>This is from our second day in being in New Orleans...yes, that is the street I was driving on...I soon will be a professional at driving in 3 feet of snow AND 3 feet of water. This morning it was -10 and the high yesterday was 5. I think we might hit 24 for this week - watch out for that heat wave!<br /><br />Not only is it numbingly cold here but this weekend we got hit with a blizzard that dropped 18 inches in our town. The wind was the snow's steady companion and so some of the snow drifts around our neighborhood ended up being several feet high. Here are just a few pictures we took one night. Now they have the roads plowed and cars dug out but the snow pile down the street is almost to the top of the lamp post.Scott & Gini Berretthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17519856277567240272noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1320520280975360556.post-79962035044059972012010-12-14T11:57:00.000-08:002010-12-14T12:17:41.042-08:00God Bless the Walmart Man<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.kvoa.com/images/news/stock/companies/walmart-2.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 403px; height: 302px;" src="http://www.kvoa.com/images/news/stock/companies/walmart-2.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br />I hate going to walmart. What I hate worse about going to Walmart is having to go and get help from someone who works there- especially around the holidays. Everyone is in a hurry or grumpy. Today I had to go and have the battery in the LC (Land cruiser) tested. It sat for a week in sub zero tempatures and had to be jumped started a few times. Scott asked me to just take it in and have it tested. I didn't want to do it. I've been dreading it since he asked me.<br /><br />This seems like an easy task but like I said, I hate Walmart and running any errands with Benson has been less than delightful since he's discovered that he can stand rather than sit in the cart. Luckly I had a doctors apt today and had a friend watch Benson for me. Before I went to go pick him up, I drove over to Walmart, around the back side and parked. I went in and a nice man behind the counter asked what he could help me with. I explained to him the situation and told him I needed the battery in the car tested. He said ok.<br /><br />This is where I was waiting for him to growl at me or tell me I'll have to wait 20 mintues. Or explain the machine or whatever it is they test the battery with is broke or being repaired. Instead he grabbed a brick looking thing that has two cords attached to it and started walking around the counter and outside to my car. dumbly, I followed him as he politely, without making me feel like an idot since I know nothing about cars, explained how it'll be tested and the numbers the results needs to be for the batter to be good. He tested it and the results printed out on his brick thing and he gave me three options of what I could do then. One option was to just make sure to run the car everyday (I picked this option).<br /><br />AND THAT WAS IT. I thanked him and he smiled and said sincerely "your welcome". It took a total of 5 maybe 7 minutes. I know this doesn't sound like that great of a story but to me it was. I feel like during the holiday season I can get so caught up in what I need to get done, what I haven't done and what a hurry I am in to get those things done, that I don't feel like I don't have time to help other people around me or even just stop and say "Thank you".<br /><br />This man seemed like his whole day was revolved around me coming in and him helping me and he was happy to do so. And he was nice. And helpful. I just stood there for a second wanting to hug this man and tell him how wonderful he was. God bless the Walmart man for teaching me a lesson.Scott & Gini Berretthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17519856277567240272noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1320520280975360556.post-61144780928393630562010-11-24T14:09:00.000-08:002010-11-24T14:15:17.880-08:00take two<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/allmystuff2008/IMG_8663.jpg"><br /></a><br />Last night we went in for the routine 20 week ultrasound and we are so excited that we're going to have <span style="font-size:180%;"><span style="font-style: italic;">another</span><span style="color: rgb(51, 51, 255);"> <span style="font-style: italic;">BOY</span></span>! </span><br /><br />I remeber when Benson was born, he would pee EVERY time we changed his diaper, i saw these at the time and never made them but now that we've got another little boy on the way, i'm tempted to make them this time around.<br /><br /><a href="http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/allmystuff2008/IMG_8663.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 773px; height: 676px;" src="http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/allmystuff2008/IMG_8663.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a>they are little wee wigwam, you cover them up while you change their diaper- how funny.Scott & Gini Berretthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17519856277567240272noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1320520280975360556.post-23331220254231797032010-11-07T17:57:00.000-08:002010-11-07T18:12:58.550-08:00Remember, Remember the 5th of November<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.survivingthestores.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/chipotle.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 611px; height: 443px;" src="http://www.survivingthestores.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/chipotle.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />I stole that from some peoples facebook status, i think its from a tv show or something.<br /><br />But its a great way to remember Scott's brithday! Oh Right- We got married on the 28th)<br /><br />So here is the late shout out to Scott for his birthday!<br /><br />We celebrated by going to Chipotle and getting 2 free burritos! (no- i didnt steal them)<br />and visiting the Minnesota History Museum where we found out that there is a lake somewhere in this great state that when the water freezes- over 30,000 people move onto the lake and create a town- they have roads, speed limits and even a towing service... amazing! I'm trying to expand our dinners a little and he likes it so much, he told me I should post it right away. The only thing i change, is the amount of sugar - I just put a little less than it calls for. We have it with rice, broccoli and nann (i tried making my own nann but then found out that trader joes has them in their freezer section).<br /><br /><span style="color: rgb(102, 204, 204);font-size:180%;" ><span style="font-weight: bold;">Coconut Curry Chicken </span></span><br /><div class="ingredients" style="margin-top: 10px;"> <h3 style="color: rgb(102, 204, 204);"> Ingredients</h3> <ul><li class="plaincharacterwrap"> 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1/2-inch chunks</li><li class="plaincharacterwrap"> 1 teaspoon salt and pepper, or to taste</li><li class="plaincharacterwrap"> 1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil</li><li class="plaincharacterwrap"> 2 tablespoons curry powder</li><li class="plaincharacterwrap"> 1/2 onion, thinly sliced</li><li class="plaincharacterwrap"> 2 cloves garlic, crushed</li><li class="plaincharacterwrap"> 1 (14 ounce) can coconut milk</li><li class="plaincharacterwrap"> 1 (14.5 ounce) can stewed, diced tomatoes</li><li class="plaincharacterwrap"> 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce</li><li class="plaincharacterwrap"> 3 tablespoons sugar</li></ul> </div> <div style="border-top: 1px dotted rgb(204, 204, 204); width: 300px; margin-top: 20px;"> </div> <div class="directions" style="margin-top: 10px;"> <h3> <span style="color: rgb(102, 204, 204);">Directions</span></h3> <ol><li><span class="plaincharacterwrap break"> Season chicken pieces with salt and pepper. </span></li><li><span class="plaincharacterwrap break"> Heat oil and curry powder in a large skillet over medium-high heat for two minutes. They come to this earth with important responsibilities and great spiritual capacities. We cannot be casual in how we prepare them. Our challenge as parents and teachers is not to create a spiritual core in their souls but rather to fan the flame of their spiritual core already aglow with the fire of their premortal faith.”</span><br /><br />the last few months have been really hard on me. being home is not as easy as i once imagined and dreamed. i was so excited to be home with my child once i was done with school and my husbands job settle down. Ive had this image since i was a little girl what a mom's life was like, and in this image, it was great.<br /><br />life is great for being a stay at home mom but its nothing to sneeze at. watching my girlfriends who don't have kids yet accomplish things that seem so much more important than dusting, changing diapers and playing peek a boo. they are out fulfilling careers, traveling the world and furthering their education.<br /><br />I've felt like what I've been doing at home is not important and has little meaning in the scheme of life. Ive thought on occasion that this life is maybe not what I want and that its not fulfilling. That i'm not good at it and I shouldn't of chosen this path. But then I realized that when you try something for the first time in your life, when do you ever just get the hang of it on the first day? Grant it, there are those women out there that as soon as that baby pops out look like they've been a mother their whole life. I'm not like that.<br /><br />I've had to start making goals for myself and thinking about what things I want to fill my time and life with. Between the several emotional breakdowns to spending my hours with self pity I'm finally learning a little bit more about my role here at home. I saw this video today and it really put things into perspective...<br /><br /><br /><br /><object style="background-image: url(http://i4.ytimg.com/vi/WbYLKVgwztY/hqdefault.jpg);" width="480" height="295"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/WbYLKVgwztY&hl=en_US&fs=1"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/WbYLKVgwztY&hl=en_US&fs=1" allowscriptaccess="never" allowfullscreen="true" wmode="transparent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="295"></embed></object>Scott & Gini Berretthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17519856277567240272noreply@blogger.com2
